When a women searches for a man on a dating website, a rather complex algorithm works behind the scenes to generate a “SERP” (Search Engine Results Page). This is important because women are more likely to email men who pop up in the first couple pages of her search, than men who pop up much later.
So how does this algorithm work? Well that’s a secret. No dating service will tell you exactly how their algorithm works. But we do know a few tricks that have proven to push your profile page to the top of the stack.
We can capitalize on these properties by logging into our account a lot, and making sure we send at least a couple emails every week – even if we don’t have much interest in the party we’re emailing. Remember, you don’t have to write back to anyone you don’t want to. Additionally, every week or so, you should be changing part of your profile text – like the book quote we talked about in the previous section. And, you should seriously consider changing your primary photo ever so often. It’s best if you have a stack of four or five great primary photos to choose from. You may also want to do some “split testing”. That is, you want to make a note of how many women contacted you with which photo. Ultimately, you want to post the pictures that result in the most dates. If you live in a city that has a lot of online daters, then you may think about “keyword optimization.” Most dating websites give women the ability to search for keywords. Some women use this feature a lot, while others never do. In any case, understanding this tool can work very well if you are hoping to get a specific type of girl.
For example, let’s say that you really want to find a girlfriend who loves scuba diving in far off tropical islands. Then, in your profile, you should not put:
Do you want to be my first mate, sail to a rock in the middle of the ocean, strap our gear on and find seashells?
The guy in the above example is trying to be cute. But remember, search engines are stupid. A woman who is actually searching for a scuba partner is not going to find this guy because his keywords are too vague. Instead he should have written something like this:
I’m looking for my soul mate – someone willing to travel with me on scuba adventures to the many tropical island paradises around the world.
Notice how in the second example, our keywords are much more targeted to our desired mate. We used the words:
These are the words a woman might actually type in, if she were looking for a scuba buddy.
Are you done reading this page? Now what would you like to do?
Well, you have two options:
